FAQ

Good questions, straight answers

What is the Global Dog Friendly Survey?

The biggest international survey of dog owners ever conducted, run in ten languages across 56+ countries. It asks how dog owners travel, eat out and live with their dogs, and what dog friendly should really mean. The results are published every year as a free public report.

Who runs the survey?

Roch Dog, the team behind the Roch Dog Friendly Standard. Roch certifies and grades dog friendly hotels from A+ down to F across 70+ data points, and is building the world's largest dog friendly dataset: 3,000+ certified hotels, 56 countries, five million+ trails, 120,000+ venues and 3,400+ emergency vets. More about us.

How long does it take?

About five minutes. One question per screen, all tapping, almost no typing.

What can I win?

Complete the survey and you're in the prize draw to win two nights at one of the world's best dog friendly hotels. One winner, drawn at random after the survey closes, contacted by email. No purchase necessary. See the full rules.

Is it free? What's the catch?

Completely free, no catch. We never charge dog owners. Your answers help push hotels, restaurants and cities to become genuinely dog friendly.

What languages is it in?

Ten, so dog owners all over the world can take part, not only English speakers.

Who can take part?

Any dog owner. For the prize draw you must be 18 or over, where prize draws are permitted by law.

What happens to my answers?

They're aggregated and anonymised, then published in the annual Global Dog Friendly Report on the state of dog friendly travel. They also help validate the standard used to grade dog friendly hotels. We never sell your data.

How are dog friendly hotels graded?

Against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard, from A+ down to F across 70+ data points: real access, staff welcome, fees, amenities and safety. The bad grades get published too, so you know what to avoid, not just where to go.

Why does "pet-friendly" so often disappoint?

Because "pet-friendly" is an unverified label. Plenty of places that use it allow dogs without welcoming them: hidden fees, weight limits, the worst room in the building. The survey measures that gap, and the grading closes it.

When are the results published?

Annually, as a free public report. Subscribe to the newsletter below to get it when it lands.
